Ella Fitzsimmons Obituary

Ella Louise Fitzsimmons, age 93, passed away on Monday October 18, 2010 at Churchman's Village surrounded by her family. Louise was born in Chester, PA, daughter of the late Arthur A. and Josie (Pierce) Alexander.

Louise was a graduate of Kennett Consolidated School, and went on to receive a degree as a Registered Nurse from the Chester Hospital in 1938. Louise later married Harry Bernard a WWII U.S. Navy sailor. She and Harry traveled to different duty stations across the United States, where Louise continued her work as a registered nurse. She retired in 1980 after working many years as an RN for Samuel Rizzotte, DDS, and the Memorial Hospital (Wilmington Hospital). Louise was also a volunteer for several years at Churchman's Village.

Mrs. Fitzsimmons is survived by her daughters, Joanne Louise Dobies and Sandra Gale Fitzsimmons and her husband Patrick. She also survived by her step-children: Edward Fitzsimmons, Robert Fitzsimmons, Richard Fitzsimmons, Kevin Fitzsimmons and his wife Evelyn, Joseph Fitzsimmons, John Fitzsimmons and Jean Fitzsimmons and her husband Jim Fritz, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her late husbands; Harry N. Bernard and Edward Fitzsimmons Sr., son; Thomas Fitzsimmons and a great-granddaughter; Michele Lee Dobies.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 22, at 1 pm at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek. Family and friends may visit from 12 to 1 pm. Interment will follow at the Longwood Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Louise to the Alzheimer's Association, 240 N. James Street, Suite 100-A, Newport, DE 19804.
